Finding it hard to decide on a venue for an away-day or weekend with the girls? Or do you fancy entering an Open competition at a different venue? Mannings Heath may be just the ticket.

Do you enjoy golf, savour the taste of a good glass of wine and does chocolate give you a guilty pleasure? Then Mannings Heath Golf Club & Wine Estate, situated in 500 acres of picturesque countryside in Horsham, West Sussex, is the place for you!

Since being acquired in 2016 by British entrepreneur Penny Streeter OBE, Mannings Heath Golf Club has undergone a programme of restoration and renovation and now has a 45-acre vineyard which will produce its own English sparkling wine by 2023.

Along with excellent short game and practice facilities, there are two golf courses on site. The 18-hole Waterfall Course, established in 1905 and designed by the renowned Harry Colt, offers a challenging but enjoyable test for players of all standards.

Unless you’re up for a strenuous walk, you’ll definitely need a buggy for the par-73, 5,439-yard course where each hole is different from the last. Look out for the par-3, 96-yard signature 10th hole that has a sting in its tail if not taken seriously and the par-4, 331-yard 11th hole which Gary Player has included as one of his top 18 holes in the world.

Before you tee off on the 14th, take time to look at the plaque in memory of RAF 51st Squadron whose plane crash landed at that point during a bombing raid in 1945 claiming the lives of all its crew. One of its propellers hangs over the fireplace in the clubhouse lounge in honour of those brave young men.

The Kingfisher Course is perfect for a quick 9 holes before perhaps taking the half hour drive to nearby Brighton with its beach and pier and famous ‘Lanes’ shopping area, or you could decide to meander back to the delightful chocolate-box looking, 17th century clubhouse and interesting Spike Bar.

Recently refurbished and tastefully decorated with unusual and comfortable ostrich leather seating, you’ll be able to partake in a spot of wine and chocolate tasting! Delicious wines from the owner’s South African vineyards at Benguela Cove and handmade organic chocolate from local suppliers, Cocoa Loca, along with the knowledge of Chris Fenton, the on-site wine expert, will definitely help you relax and unwind! What better way is there to spend an afternoon? And if that’s not enough, in the elegant Benguela Brasserie, there are delicious lunch and dinner menus to sample, prepared by Executive Chef, Nick McAllister.

If an overnight stay is what you’re looking for, Fullers Cottage, a recently restored, 19th century property with four bedrooms, is available for groups of up to 10. With its own kitchen and use of a private garden area, guests can relax and enjoy themselves in their own environment, just a stone’s throw away from the clubhouse and first tee.

Mannings Heath Golf Club & Wine Estate is a fabulous venue offering challenging golf, fine wine, excellent food, wonderful views of the countryside and attentive staff, so highly recommended for golfers who are looking for something a little special.
