It has been an eventful week for Laura Davies as yesterday the English player received her damehood as Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire, and today it was announced that she will be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2015.
Dame Laura shared the happy moment at Buckingham Palace with her stepfather Mike, mother Rita, long-time family friend Jose Marinas and brother Tony. According to Laura’s official website, www.lauradaviesgolf.com, Laura’s late father Dave would have been proud.
Davies has won 20 times on the LPGA, and 45, the most all time, on the Ladies European Tour. Most notably, she won four Majors: the 1994 and ’96 LPGA Championship, the 1987 US Women’s Open and the 1996 du Maurier Classic. She was the leading money winner in 1994 and the Player of the Year in ’96.
“I think it’s the pinnacle,” Davies said. “If you’ve had a great and long career, the one thing that you want is to end up in the Hall of Fame. To get the call is icing on the cake.”
