The Mayor of London welcomes the first UK Cross Golf Open and the European Urban Golf Cup on 15-16 May 2015 at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London - the biggest cross golf event in Europe.

On Saturday 16 May, London will host the European Urban Golf Cup (EUGC) for the first time at the iconic Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park with the support of Sport England, Lee Valley, Get Living London and the Mayor of London.

The EUGC is the biggest cross golf event in Europe. In 2014, the tournament was held in Cologne, Germany and saw 12 countries competing for the trophy, with Germany taking the title.

Simon Cooper, Head of Sport at the Greater London Authority, says "We're delighted to be welcoming teams from across Europe to London, and will be looking to make this the best European Urban Golf Cup event yet. It is a great way of involving the whole community in a wonderful sport, so it is very fitting indeed that it is being held in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park as a way to help our ongoing determination to deliver a legacy from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games."

The event will see teams of up to 12 players from 10 countries compete in a 14 hole cross golf course designed by organisers Community Golf.

Community Golf Managing Director, Richard Shaw says "We were invited to play in last year's tournament in Cologne, and were so inspired that we knew we had to make it happen in London. With the support of the Mayor of London and Sport England, as well as the Shoreditch Golf Club who pioneered urban golf here, we've been able to make it a reality."

Friday 15 May will see the first UK Cross Golf Open take place, with players competing for the Jeremy Feakes Memorial Trophy as well as 1 of 12 places in the UK team for the EUGC tournament the following day.

BBC Breakfast's Mike Bushell is looking forward to visiting and perhaps playing. He says "Cross Golf looks like an accessible version of the game which I see has been spreading golf to new communities around the world. The UK Cross Golf Open is a first and it's great to see Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park being used for new and innovative sports. I have played many new versions of golf and look forward to getting a taste of cross golf."

There are a limited number of player places available for the UK Cross Golf Open on Friday 15 May, and opportunities to be involved as a volunteer.
