On a brutal day on the links, one of constant wind, rain, hail and even snow, the cream of UK student golfers struggled to combat the conditions in the 93rd Scottish Student Championships over the Moray Golf Club links at Lossiemouth.

Shortly after 3pm, the competition was called off, with the 54 hole totals proclaiming the winners.

In the ladies event, first year student Gemma Batty (Stirling; Formby Ladies) overcame more experienced Hannah McCook (Stirling; Grantown-on-Spey) with a final +1 total of 221, compared to +4 (224). Third was Slovenian international Nastja Banovec, one further shot back.

In the men's event a staggering 70 (-1) in the teeth of the conditions saw former English amateur finalist Henry Tomlinson (Stirling; Royal Lytham and St Annes) come from six shots back to tie for the title with 2013 Scottish Student Champion and Swiss international Mathias Eggenberger (Stirling; Bad Ragaz), whose 75 was third best score of the morning, giving a 54 hole total of 209 (-2). Both Stirling stars headed their Swiss compatriot Marco Iten and Northumbria University student Andrew Wilson, who finished the 54 holes on a total of 212 (+1). Four shots further back was Tom Beasley (St Andrews; Hunstanton) who had been unable to maintain top form from day 1 and fifth came top Scot Angus Carrick (Stirling; Douglas Park).
