The Clutch Pro Tour Open Access masters at Sunningdale Heath resulted in an almost equal mix of men and women filling the leaderboard.

Filling the top 10 positions were eight women and 10 men, including leading female and amateur Thalia Kirby who finished two under at T3 and only missed out on the playoff by one shot.

The teenager was on the England Girls’ Squad 2017/18, 2018/19 and she’s due to compete in the Women’s Amateur Championship at West Lancashire in August.

Already shooting competitive rounds like this as an amateur, we can’t wait to see what she'll do with the rest of her career.

Speaking to W&G she said:

“I am really happy with yesterday’s result. After such a long time off competitive golf it was really good to throw myself back in at the deep end with a tournament featuring world-class players. I learnt a lot about my game that hopefully I can rely on in the future.

"Playing in the same field as the likes of Charley Hull and Dame Laura Davies is always surreal as these are players I’ve looked up to from a young age. It’s difficult, but keeping your head down and focusing on your own game and trusting your abilities is important when you're up against such great players.”

Other big names in the top 10 included former LET player Sophie Walker, golf legend Trish Johnson and LET star Inci Mehmet at T5, plus recent Rose Ladies Series winner Gemma Dryburgh and LET player Gabs Cowley at T9.

Many of the competitors took to Twitter to congratulate the Clutch Pro Tour and tour partners Modest! Golf on putting on such a brilliant event and to say how much they enjoyed it.

Speaking on Twitter, Sophie Walker said:

"That’s my first event of the year over. I shot 58, think I’ll sail away into the sunset again now."

Meanwhile, voice of the LET Meghan MacLaren said:

"Great work Mark and everyone at @clutchprotour and @GolfShgc would love this to become a regular event! Perfect setup for it."

Consisting mainly of par 3s with a scattering of par 4 holes, the course was the ideal opportunity for the players to show off their iron skills.

Next up on the Clutch Pro Tour is the Major 2 at Golf at Goodwood on Friday July 10.
