The next major on the LPGA tour, the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, tees off on Thursday at Kemper Lakes Golf Club in Chicago. With a field representing the top 100 women on the LPGA tour, the scenes have been set for a weekend full of drama in the windy city.
Returning to Kemper Lakes Golf Club for the second consecutive year, the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship includes a field of 156 players in total; all 100 of the top 100 players on the LPGA tour and 29 different major champions that have a combined 62 major titles between them, including Juli Inkster and Inbee Park.
There’s also 10 former KPMG Women’s PGA Champions in the field this week. Laura Davies, Brooke Henderson, Anna Nordqvist, and Karrie Webb are amongst those players hoping to re-enact their previous victories.
And, of course, last year’s champion, Danielle Kang will return to Chicago to defend her title. After a dramatic birdie on the 72nd hole, American Kang edged Brooke Henderson to win the tournament by a single shot and secure her first major trophy last year. Speaking at the press conference ahead of this year’s tournament, Danielle sounded confident about the state of her game going into this weekend. Watch her interview here.
Who would we be putting our money on this weekend? There’s three players who immediately stand out- Ariya Jutanugarn, Inbee Park, and Charley Hull, who have all posted top-10 finishes in the LPGA’s first two major championships this season. In the ANA Inspiration at the start of the season, Jutanugarn finished in tied 4th, Inbee Park in tied 2nd, and Charley Hull in tied 6th, whilst in the U.S. Women’s Open a few weeks ago, Jutanugarn claimed her first major win of the year, and Park and Hull finished in 9th and 10th positions consecutively.
