The UK stage of the world's largest amateur golf tournament begins on Wednesday 3 May 2017, as players tee up for the 28th edition of the Audi quattro Cup.
Over the next four months, more than 2,000 golfers nationwide will compete for a place in the prestigious UK final of the Audi quattro Cup at Bowood Golf and Country Club, Calne in Wiltshire, from 6 to 8 September 2017.
From here, the winners will then go on to represent the UK in the world final at the Quivira Golf Club in Cabo San Luca, Mexico, from 1 to 5 December 2017. Designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus, Quivira is a stunning resort course built to take full advantage of its beautiful coastal setting. The spectacular culmination of the tournament is contested by almost 100,000 players across 51 countries.
The UK leg begins with the first centre round at Cowdray Park,Midhurst, West Sussex, and a further 34 centre rounds will be played across the nation until the end of June. The winners will be paired up and entered into seven regional rounds, which will take place over the summer months.
A total of 18 winning pairs from the regional rounds will move on to the UK final. The players will be thoroughly tested by the unforgiving bunkers and undulating greens of the Wiltshire course. The event will be attended by Nick Dougherty, the Sky Sports summariser and a top-ten finisher at the 2007 US Open, who will run a golf clinic, as well as world trick-shot champion Geoff Swain.
The winners will advance to the season's highlight: the world final in Mexico. The UK will hope to improve on last year's impressive showing, when teams from South Hereford Audi, Coulsdon Audi and Beckenham Audi finished in the top ten at the Real Club de Golf El Prat in Barcelona, Spain. Eric Kelley and Don Tate from the USA took the title.
