Rory McIlroy teed it up alongside Donald Trump on Sunday, at Trump International, ahead of his return at next week’s WGC-Mexico Championship.

As with most circumstances regarding the new president, the round was not without its controversy. The White House was forced to issue a statement confirming that POTUS had indeed played a full 18 after conflicting reports about the round came to light.

The statement read: ''As stated yesterday the President played golf. He intended to play a few holes and decided to play longer. He had a full day of meetings, calls and interview for the new NSA, which he is continuing today before returning to Washington, D.C. Tonight.''

The sight of both Trump or McIlroy on the course was a surprise to most. While political reporters were taken aback that Trump had squeezed in the time for another eighteen, Mclroy is still recovering with a rib injury and had been quoted saying that he would not be playing again until next week.

The Irishman, spoke to No Laying Up, who first reported the story:

"He probably shot around 80. He’s a decent player for a guy in his 70’s!"
