Branston Ladies Taskers team saw off local rivals Whittington Heath Golf Club in a closely-fought final at Wollaton Park to win the Burtoft Trophy.

The Burton-Upon-Trent club would come through six knockout matches to reach the final in the ever-expanding competition, which this year saw 68 clubs from across 8 counties participate.

Branston captain, Di Horsley, praised the organisers for introducing and organizing a competition that gave ladies with a wide range of handicaps the opportunity to play in a friendly, but highly competitive, event.

“Our team of 10 have had a ball over the past 7 months. From newbies to seasoned match players we have all developed hugely as golfers gaining in confidence and thoroughly enjoying the challenges new courses have thrown at us.''

''New friendships have been forged, a great team spirit developed and a sense of pride in what we have achieved has left us all ready to do it all again next year.”

Sponsored by Taskers UK, the over-50's competition, was introduced in 2011 and has grown each year, enabling over £20,000 to be donated to the counties involved for their junior development.
