The Glam Girls Golf Evening at Shaw Hill Golf Club in Lancashire, organised by Lady Captain Hilary Powell and members of the committee, raised £2,000 for local charity Rosemere Cancer Foundation.

The evening featured a golf and leisurewear fashion show by on site club pro shop James Barr. Compered by Bob Leatherbarrow, some of the golfing girls took to the catwalk to model its latest collections. Hilary also designed and produced her own pink Glam Golf Girls T-shirts for Rosemere, which she sold on the night.

In addition, there were presentations by Rosie Huckle, of Style Confidence, and Claire Robinson, of accessories and jewellery company Stella & Dot, plus shopping stalls offering everything from tempting organic puds to the latest in beauty treatments. A raffle boasting prizes worth £750, including a £250 body sculpting treatment donated by Shaw Hill’s Sculpt Aesthetics salon, rounded off the night.

Hilary said:

“This is the first event of my captaincy for my charity and it couldn’t have got off to a better start. I would like to thank the committee for all its help and everyone who came along. It was great fun.”

Hilary decided to support Rosemere after losing a close friend, who was aged just 42, to cancer 12 years ago and also, as a tribute to her sister-in-law Sara, who has now started to play golf at Woburn Golf Club, after battling cancer bravely twice.

Rosemere Cancer Foundation spends the donations it receives on vital equipment, research and training that cannot be funded by the NHS. It strives to bring world class cancer treatments and services to local cancer patients throughout Lancashire and South Cumbria via their local hospitals and the specialist regional treatment centres. These specialist centres are the Rosemere Cancer Centre at the Royal Preston Hospital, Blackpool Victoria Hospital for blood cancers and Blackburn Royal Infirmary for liver cancers.

The charity also funds those things that can make the cancer journey a little more comfortable such as free access to complementary therapies for all newly diagnosed patients.
