A Dream Comes Closer For Lea-Anne Bramwell

Lea-Anne Bramwell, of both Abergele and Wrexham Golf Clubs, has made quite an impact on the golfing scene during 2019. Taking on a packed schedule playing in Great Britain, Europe and South America she has come of age to now play in the ladies’ tournaments.

The highlight to date though is the invitation she received from Wales Golf, as a member of its top performance squad, to play in a professional tournament, the ISPS Handa World Invitational.

This is the first of its kind in Europe where male and female professional tour golfers compete in the same competition for equal money.

There was a total of 80 female professional golfers playing from the Ladies European Tour (Becky Brewerton, Catrina Mathew), the Access Tour, Symetra Tour and even the American LPGA Tour (Beth Allen) plus Charley Hull ranked 20thin the world to name a few.

The tournament held at the Massereene and Galgorm Golf Clubs near Ballymena in Northern Ireland were both fantastic championship venues.

Lea-Anne played some of the best golf of her life in some very difficult windy and rainy conditions. She finished the 2ndbest amateur but even more impressive an overall 20thin the tournament after beating several highly experienced and successful touring professionals.

Lea-Anne’s dream is to be a professional golfer, and this certainly is a step in the right direction. Making it into the final day after 2 cuts was beyond anything she expected and warming up on the range alongside Catrina Mathew (Solheim Cup Captain) was the stuff of dreams!!

Before winter training starts she is looking forward to playing in the French Ladies Championships in Lille and the final of the European Team Championships in Hungary.

The idea of such a tournament came from Niall Horan who started a management company called Modest Golf.  Its aim is to promote ladies golf to the point where they can compete for the same money as the men. The ISPS Handa World Invitational if the first of its kind in Europe and thanks goes to Niall and his team for the invitation and to everyone involved in creating a fantastic competition.
