Irish Womens Close Championship 2018

Valerie Clancy from Killarney won the Leitrim Cup after leading the qualifying stages of the Irish Women’s Close Championship in Enniscrone with a level par score of 146.

Clancy becomes the second Killarney member in a row to lead the qualifying at this event after Mairead Martin claimed the title last year in Mullingar. Ciara Casey (Hermitage) and Shannon Burke (Ballinrobe) shared second place on 148, whilst Deirdre Smith (Co. Louth), who opened with a 2-under par 70 in the morning, qualified in fourth place.

The Championship now progresses to the matchplay stages, where Clancy will face 32nd qualifier Chloe O’Connor (Roscommon) on Sunday morning. The next 16 have qualified to play in the Ita Wallace Trophy.
