Leona Maguire has broken the record for the longest time spent at No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. She has now spent 131 weeks at the top, one more than LPGA star Lydia Ko.

Maguire, a native of Cavan, Ireland, has been No. 1 in the WAGR for 79 straight weeks from August 2016 to January 31.  She was also No. 1 for 52 weeks from May 2015 to May 2016.
She enjoyed a stellar season last year, capturing the British Amateur Ladies Championship and the Annika Award as the top-ranked US College player.
The WAGR ranks the top female amateur golfers in the world on the basis of their average performance in counting events over a rolling cycle of the previous 104 weeks.
