Rochdale Golf Club’s Michelle Black and Lisa Duffy have finished runners up at the first ever American Golf Tournament of Champions in Mauritius.
The two day competition took place at the Heritage Le Telfair Golf Club on the tropical island of Mauritius. The pair, who qualified for the event as winners of the national American Golf Ladies Championship, put on a fantastic performance against competitors from across the UK and Ireland.
After day 1 only 6 points separated the 5 teams, which left it all to play for in the final round. The Ladies pair played some fantastic golf with both Michelle and Lisa impressing the crowds. On the second day of the competition Lisa sank back to back birdies to catch the leading pair, Ian and James Fox - a father and son team from Leyland Golf Club. Despite their best efforts, and an impressive 44 points in the final round, it wasn’t enough to take the title.
Nonetheless the ladies were delighted with their performance and the opportunity American Golf had given them. Lisa explains,
“It’s been great for ladies to be able to come here & compete with the men. They have been really complimentary about our games. Some hadn’t played with ladies much before and I think we have changed that for them.”
7,500 golfers from across the UK and Ireland entered the free American Golf Tournaments which culminated in the Tournament of Champions competition on the beautiful island of Mauritius.
All of the Championship finals will be shown on Sky Golf starting this October. For more information visit www.americangof.co.uk/events for next year.
