Girls Golf Rocks – the hugely successful campaign to attract new, young golfers – is running again in Cheshire this month.
Free taster sessions for girls will be on offer at Disley and Prestbury Golf Clubs on 17 September; Eaton Golf Club on 24 September and Lymm Golf Club on 25 September.
Girls Golf Rocks is all about having fun, learning a new sport, getting active and playing alongside friends – with no pressure. Girl golfers from county squads will act as ambassadors, sharing their enjoyment and inspiring other girls, aged five to 18.
Following the taster sessions, when the new girls will be welcomed by the PGA professionals, a ten-week structured coaching programme will be offered by the clubs for £15, with the county girl players mentoring the newcomers.
Cheshire was one of nine counties to run Girl Golf Rocks sessions earlier this year, and they attracted 84 girls into a structured coaching programme, with almost 40 playing in a par three competition.
Ringway was one of the four clubs involved and proved the most successful in the country by involving 50 girls in the programme.
The new series of sessions is run jointly by England Golf and the Golf Foundation, with the support of Active Cheshire, and they target another area of the county.
Lauren Spray, England Golf’s Women and Girls’ participation manager, said: “We had a fantastic response when we first launched Girls Golf Rocks in Cheshire. We’re delighted to extend the scheme and looking forward to welcoming many more girls into golf.”
