The secret of hitting a consistent pitch shot is having a sound set-up position. Achieve this and you are 80% towards hitting the desired shot. On average you will play at least 60% of your shots within 50 yards of the green, but how often do you practise these shots and most importantly, do you know what and how to practise?

The PW, 7-iron and 9-iron are the three most common clubs to use when playing a 20-50 yard shot. Challenge yourself to become brilliant with these clubs and then see how quickly your scores tumble down!

Place your feet slightly closer together than you would for a full shot and grip a little further down the club for better control. Your ball position should be just forward of centre and keep your sternum pointing at the front of the ball.

Poor set-up is a common fault. If your hands are a long way behind the golf ball, this will encourage you to scoop the ball.

A common fault for ladies is the way they take the club away and lose posture by standing up. This can cause a thinned shot or it’s likely the player will hit the ground before the ball. Distance control will also be lost.
