When you find yourself on a slope close to the green and you need to play a downhill chip shot, it is important that you understand the basic fundamentals.
TIP= YOUR SHOULDERS MUST BE PARALLEL TO THE SLOPE
Set up with a wide stance to allow good balance and stability throughout the motion. On a downslope as pictured here, most of your weight should be in front of the ball. You can check this by holding the shaft across your chest at set-up.
TIP= DON'T TRY AND FIGHT THE LIE
When you are on a downslope your backswing should be steeper than usual. Notice the shaft plane position and how it is running through the left chest and up through the neck. This will promote a good angle of attack and strike on the ball. The ball will float up and land softly on the green.
